are serious? 5500$ to learn how to ride a bike! i mean i know it involves more than that but these are skills one can learn by observing asking reading and most importantly just going for it, no one is gonna learn anything overnight, i have taking many spills learning some of the stuff i know but that just comes with the sport.

No, I went out to sgc last year and learned more in a week than I would that whole summer. With instruction from people who know what they are doing you gain confidence and flow. By the end of the week I was railing berms faster than normal, riding steeper tracks faster than I normally would, hit bigger jumps/drops with more confidence, my speed increased, my flow increased and I became a better rider all around. I could only assume that ZEP with 2-4 week camps that not only teach you how to ride but teach you to properly maintain your bike would help you that much more. I know it's a lot of money but if you want to get the most of your riding ability these camps are worth the money. Plus, how much would you pay for a cruise for the same time line, or a hotel elsewhere, probably more than this.

i'm not saying that taking a camp is bad its just that the price is ridiculous, u could buy a whole new top of the line bike with the cash, don't get me wrong i my self am taking the freeride camp at whistler this summer and paying a lil less than 300$. So its not so much the camp its the price.

how much are you paying for hotel while you are there? are you getting as high quality training? What do you get for the camp? and what Is the timeline of the camp?

1st. the hotels arent cheap, assume 100 a night for 30 days (assuming you take the 4 week course) that 3000 before tax, on top of that you are getting 1 month of instruction, a seasons pass, a bike always avaliable to you, a pro tech to teach you to maintian your bikes, video review, trips out to pemberton and squamich, suspension tuning and set-up classes. all that for another 2500$ not to mention all the goodies they give you.

after a breakdown of the actual camp the price is extremely reasonable. I understand that it is a lot of money but like I said above, its really not that much more than a trip of the same length.

buddy i don't have a lot of money, and even if i did i still wouldn't pay that, i don't even have enough money to stay there the whole season, so having the season pass would be pointless for me, i would love to stay in a hotel the week that ill be there but again i don't have lots of $$ and i'm sure lots of ppl are just like me(not rich) but thankfully i don't mind camping, in fact i love camping, thank goodness there is a camping site in whistler at 30 bucks a night, hmmmm times that by 7 days equals 210 dollars not 3000.

look i understand your point but u gotta understand that this isn't for everyone, if u have extra money flowing out of pockets and don't know what to do with it Great take the class, but i still think its pointless, the class i'm taking its just two days, enough for the instructor to show me what i am doing wrong and what i should do to fix it, you want know who the instructor is? go to the whistler site and see for your self, i believe hes qualified and experienced enough to b an instructor. look i'm 26 yrs old and i have a family, i'm not gonna spend the whole summer there, this is a two week road trip that includes Tahoe and Mammoth, if u wanted i could break it down for you and you will see that i still wont pay 2000$ for the whole trip.

If I had the bread to lay down, lookout here I come. Train with the best so you can become a better rider. you get a lift ticket for the week, plus you're with someone who has blazed the trails out there. It doesn't get any better than that folks, we're talking whistler here not, mt. poley in new brunswick.

Originally from the UK, I grew up-mountain biking on the South Downs and leading trips throughout England and Europe. I am certain, that to lead a group of mountain bikers in the UK, you would legally need the appropriate certification course for liability reasons. Unfortunately the UK is almost as litigious as North America these days. The idea of coaching this sport without any training (whether it's legal or not) is quite frankly, a little scary anyway! I've seen this happen over my 11 years of teaching mountain biking, and it is rarely ever a positive experience for both student and "teacher". More info on the Mountain Bike Instructor Courses in the UK is at:

http://www.mountainbikeinstruction.co.uk/

All the Whistler Camps are truly amazing and each offer their own style of product for a certain type of person and at ZEP, we're just hoping to offer the best camps we can, for riders with a longer time-frame and bigger budget for their, personal mountain bike holidays/adventures. No camp will suit everyone and the good ones rarely do - although that would be great!!

Cheers,

Paul

Matt-W - thanks for the questions.. as you'll see in the text with the video, the riders are both campers and coaches. Since starting these camps in 2007, we've always wanted to offer a product that was different to what was currently out there. In recent years, more and more riders are coming to Whistler for the whole season, if not a year, so we wanted to offer a camp that was longer than just a week, or a few days. In the winter, I have been coaching 12-week Snowboard Instructor Training Camps for many years, so I wanted to offer a similar product with my company, only in Mountain Biking.

In addition to and because of this, our camps are designed for a different market to the other, few Whistler-based camps... more for older (18 and up), often foreign riders (UK, Australia) who are on a "Gap Year" before university or for those taking a year out from their career and travelling, rather than younger, local riders on a summer break.

We also offer a different take on riding development, with our instructors all having a long-term background and training in teaching, instructing mountain biking and training other instructors... which makes all the difference when it comes to safely and effectively developing the riding skills of our campers. The term "professional coaches" is often mis-used in the current mountain bike industry. True, professional coaches have had specific training and years of experience in sports analysis, biomechanics, skill development, pedagogy (teacher training), rider analysis, assessment and development, physical and mental training and so forth.

there's already like 4 of these bike camps with professional coaches in whistler.

what do you offer that these don't ?

also, who recognises your coaching qualification? In the uk, a qualification is not even needed to legally coach mountain biking.

were the people in the video coaches or campers?

how much is a standard holiday camp?

can you add this information next time you put out an advert, thanks.

Hahaha. Mount Poley? It's hardly a Mountain. xD Campbellton is pretty much the "mini whistler" around here. This camp idea sounds pretty cool. I can dig it.
